Eagle Chamber Issues Community Alert on Increased Email Phishing Activity
Protect Your Account. Prevent the Spread. Stay Vigilant.

EAGLE, CO - The Eagle Chamber of Commerce is issuing a community-wide alert regarding an increase in email phishing and malware activity impacting individuals and businesses both locally and beyond.

Recent reports indicate that malicious emails are being sent from compromised accounts, often appearing to come from trusted or familiar contacts. These emails may include suspicious links or attachments designed to gain access to sensitive information or further spread the threat.

"This type of activity is unfortunately becoming more common, and the tactics used are increasingly sophisticated," said Michelle Morgan, Executive Director of the Eagle Chamber of Commerce. "We want to ensure our business community is informed, prepared and taking proactive steps to protect themselves and others."

While this activity is not isolated to any one organization, the Chamber is encouraging heightened awareness across the community. Even emails from known contacts should be treated with caution if they appear unusual or unexpected.

Recommended Precautionary Measures

Community members and businesses are encouraged to:

  • Avoid clicking on links or opening attachments from suspicious or unexpected emails
  • Verify questionable messages by contacting the sender through a separate, trusted method.
  • Be cautious of urgent or unusual requests involving sensitive information
Immediate Action if You've Engaged with a Suspicious Email

If you have clicked on a suspicious link or opened an attachment:
  1. Change the passwords for your email account(s) and any related accounts
  2. Enable two-factor authentication (2FA) wherever possible
Implementing multi-factor authentication is one of the most effective ways to prevent unauthorized access - even if login credentials have been compromised.

The Eagle Chamber emphasizes that cybersecurity threats like these can impact anyone and are not the result of any one organization or individual. By taking simple, proactive steps, community members can help reduce risk and prevent further spread.

"We are committed to fostering a proactive and informed business environment, " Morgan added. "Protecting our community is a shared responsibility and awareness is our first line of defense."

For additional guidance, individuals are encouraged to contact their IT provider or email service platform.

The Eagle Chamber of Commerce is dedicated to supporting and advancing the business community through advocacy, connection, and economic vitality initiatives that strengthen the region.
